Bilyonaryo Henry “Big Boy” Sy, Jr. recently met with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to discuss details of Starlink’s entry into the Philippines as a satellite internet provider.
Joining Sy at the meeting with Marcos were Data Lake Inc. CEO Anthony Almeda, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez, and Nick Galano, a representative of American billionaire Elon Musk’s Starlink.
Musk’s SpaceX provides high-speed, low-latency broadband internet in over 40 countries worldwide. Sy’s Data Lake will be their local partner to enter the Philippine market, and is in line with the Marcos Jr. government’s push for greater digitization.
The goal is to provide high-speed internet access to more areas, including remote islands, powered by satellite dishes rather than costly fiber optic cables underground.
